So I got a raise at work and was calculating how many hours I will be working in a year and how much I am being paid for that.
Then it clicked me, if I had to buy an earphones, how many hours I will have to work for it.
Let's look at an example. Average Joe's salary is $30K
Now Joe's employer makes him work 5 days a week for 8 hours daily.
Joe gets 10 days holidays, 5 sick leaves and 5 vacation leaves.
With that Jack works for: 241 days.
8 hours per day: 241 8 = 1928 hours
Joe gets paid: $30000/1928 = $15.5 per hour.
Now if Joe wants to purchase an earphone which cost $50, Joe will have to work: 50/15.5 = 3.21 hours.
This gives a realistic picture of how worth it is to buy something or not.
