First, a stillbirth is not a miscarriage. It is a term to describe what happens when a baby dies inside the womb but is developed enough that mothers still have to deliver them as if they were living.
At my 34 week appointment during my first pregnancy, I learned my baby boy had passed inside my womb. I delivered him the next day. He weighed 4 lb 15oz. He was perfect.
It being my first pregnancy, I didn’t know what activity level was normal and what wasn’t. Looking back, there was absolutely a decrease in his movement. My OB had told me not to count the kicks until 34 weeks so I wasn’t worried. The possibility of stillbirth had never entered my brain. Ignorance is bliss. Education is power.
Last fall, when I was 34 weeks pregnant with my daughter, my new OB told me to pay very close attention to her activity. That weekend, I researched what I could do and found out about CountTheKicks. I didn’t have enough time to set up her baseline because I had an emergency CSection the following day because my OB noticed baby girl wasn’t moving as much as she had been or should have been. She’s 9.5 months old now and thriving.
This app has saved babies lives and quite possibly could have saved Andrew’s.
