I think the media and social media plays a big part but people are also so unwilling these days to have a simple conversation with opposing views, without getting hostile and angry.
I heard someone say that since everything is closed and there are not many sports that people are starting to get bored. I think it’s certainly plausible.
The media. Negative news sells better than positive. People like being told they’re right and people that disagree are dumb and evil. If the main way people hear the news is how everything is terrible and its the other teams fault, then yeah, things are gonna be pretty divided
In essence, the nation was not necessarily founded on the principles it purports. They are, nonetheless, important in the minds of many citizens, who are educated to think they are deservedly theirs. They are right, they do deserve freedom of movement/press/etc., and they are quite entitled to wish their individual freedoms to be protected.
So, If they’re black, they’re likely to feel entitled to wish to push forward with wishing to be treated equally in a society that never has. If they’re white rich conservatives, they’re likely to feel like the freedoms they enjoy are already shared, and feel like attempts at equality are somehow diminishing their own freedom. If they’re gay, or Christian, well you get the picture.
The result is division.
I’ll be honest, though, my nation is quite divided, too. So are a lot of them. China certainly is, and as we see, so is Russia.
Willful ignorance, same as always.
