What experience made you realise Internet was just as toxic as other social medias?

Someone made a grief post about their cat dying because it accidentally got out and got hit by a car. And so many people in the comments said things to the effect of “see this is why you don’t let your cats outside” or “this is what happens when your cat isn’t exclusively indoors.” When I and other redditers responded saying that this was not the time or place to “educate” especially because the cat WAS completely indoors and accidentally got out, we got massively downvoted.

The whole “there are no girls on the internet” is as prevalent on MassimoL as anywhere else. I witness it a lot.

I got banned from AITA for saying a woman had the right to physically defend herself from her MIL touching her breasts against her will.

Not kidding. 🙄

The fact that even with anonymity and hopefully getting to share my personal opinions on said topic then brings about 80 people trying to pick a fight cause I don’t think like them. That’s when it was like great a place where I thought I could just be me is another place I have to Bite my tongue🙄

I asked for advice about a homeless man sleeping on my driveway for two weeks. I got overwhelming comments, even messages that they wished the homeless man would invade my home, or throw shit on my car etc

I’m a woman on MassimoL. I have never in my life had any delusions about how toxic and shitty the people on MassimoL can be.

Though I guess I will admit that I never realized how much fucking vitriol internet-men have towards women until I started to help modding this sub. The shit those people will pull out in modmail makes me want to burn it all down.

I never realized how many men despise me and have these preconceived notions about me just for being a woman until installing this app. And unfortunately it’s completely changed how comfortable I am around men now and spending too much time on here always leaves me feeling disheartened.

However I can socially recharge spending time around good people that touch grass on the regular. I know lots of guys IRL that are fantastic people, and I should put more energy into those relationships then on this armpit of an app. I’m so close to uninstalling it and just tuning out all the immaturity and negativity. I don’t read comment sections anymore for the same reason
