As someone who works security at a major hotel/casino in Las Vegas, I think people that don’t or won’t wear their masks properly are selfish as hell.
I get a lot of people that complain about not being able to breathe, or they just flat out refuse to, claim medical exemptions (PSA: this is NOT a thing; there’s no legal exemptions), etc. I get a lot of attitude, and i just.
Just wear the masks. Or a shield, cover up. This could all go away ASAP if everyone complies.
In retail it’s easy. They don’t want to wear them, it’s hard to breath, it’s unconstitutional, I have a medical illness that prevents me from wearing one and you just have to take my word for it, well I’m not sick, I’m not Chinese so it won’t affect me, they don’t work anyways, it’s too hot, and so many more excuses.
And they all act as if they’re the only person to say these things to me and I will believe them. Granted HIPPA on the medical one, but we can still legally refuse that bitch service, which we did, and she was a complete bitch about it too. And I was technically on my 15 and was helping my coworkers out by handling her. She then tried to yell at me for telling her to mask her 3 week old. I quickly shot that one down by saying I didn’t say that I said if you and your significant other wants to shop here then you both need to wear a mask. At that point I had a manager called and it ended with the bitch cursing us out before leaving.
I’ll wear a mask when I’m near a crowd of people or inside a store or restaurant but that’s about it. I dont really see a point to wearing a mask outside or in your car or house. The only people coming into my house or car are in my bubble. I don’t where a mask outside because if someone were to sneeze in the air the odds of covid being that condensed and hitting you outside of 6 feet is incredibly slim

the theory is that cloth/single layer masks is just a security theater and it doesn’t protect you. Its only useful if you have the virus , it reduces transmission range and intensity. So if majority of people do wear masks the transmission rate goes down significantly. So I don’t bother to wear a mask but avoid unnecessary visits to places where people congregate.

Where I live is semi rural, where there are no cases of covid. IMO wearing a mask out here is pointless, but its a case of one rule for everyone, no matter where you live in the country and if there’s even any cases near you. I think out here its unnecessary and just adds to the sense of fear.
Also, the governments response to covid has been abysmal, imo, so as someone else mentioned, people having to wear masks, curfews etc etc, is just for show, to some degree. People need to be educated, informed and empowered, rather than instilled with fear, imo. Now, dont get me wrong, I am all for measures that help, but being fined for not wearing a mask when you are the only person for hundreds of meters is a bit much. Take care everyone.
