first gen american kid here – yes and no, it depends on who you’re living with and where. i live with my grandparents in a pretty safe part of a very big city whenever i go, so i’ve never personally had a problem. that being said, india as a whole very much has an assault problem that’s still in the process of being addressed.
One of my best friends is Indian and yes, she says she got molested and harassed many times when growing up (on a bus going to school etc.). She doesn’t live in India anymore but says things are still the same.
My wife lived in India for a month. She went with a group. The women never went anywhere without a man. She said that she was stared at constantly to the point where it was uncomfortable. She never was harassed, but she was very uncomfortable with how men looked at her.
Depends on the place. India has 28 states and 8 union territories. There is much cultural diversity. The toxic masculinity shit is there, but the newer generation is really better. Additionally,do check out places like Kerala, Bangalore etc..might not be what you expected at all.
Places like Pune, Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad ,Bangalore etc. The metro cities have a very safe culture. I’m an Indian and a girl who constantly travels day and night. I have roamed and explored the night life of many cities.
It’s always safe for you when you know where you should be , whom you should contact and how you should behave.
Tho in rural parts of country it’s totally unsafe for anyone to roam around at night.
So no if you are well educated of your surroundings and know what to do at times then it’s pretty safe to explore.
