The latter is definitely true.
The former is more nuanced. Mistakes we make are no worse than before, except for the fact that they now have global consequences. The stakes are so high now, we need to make better decisions to avoid blowing ourselves up.

Esp when it comes to other countries, centuries ago someone here in Britain wouldn’t have the foggiest what was happening in China for example on a day to day basis

People somewhat forget that newspapers or even radios often weren’t covering every single bs that happened around the world. Now internet informs you about the normal criminal from the other side of the world.
I do think the world was always pretty fucked up, I mean history proves it, but now media just covers WAY more.
