For those who quit smoking, how did you do it, any tips for someone who is 7 days clear?

I read “Allen Carr’s Easyway to Stop Smoking”. Helped me greatly understand the psychie behind smoking as well as quitting.
The physical withdrawal symptoms are horrible to cope with, but having been seven days in I assure you that the worst had passed. You may get a few “cravings” every once in a while, but there are numerous ways to overcome those, and I assure you it’s not very difficult. Having a glass of water every time i got an urge to smoke helped me greatly. Fitness is a great substitute for smoking, because as you see progress you will be reluctant to undo all the hardwork by smoking. Honestly I feel like different things work for different people.

It’s the psychological addiction, the feeling that you “like” smoking, that keeps us going back to smoking. Beleive it or not we have been brainwashed unknowingly to like cigarettes, and it takes a conscious effort to undo the brainwashing and teach ourselves that we don’t need or like cigarettes, and can live happily like any non smoker. This can be done by reassuring ourselves that you are happier as a non smoker. Don’t romantacise your times smoking, tell yourself that you don’t miss it. I agree that you should avoid your smoking triggers, but don’t miss out on social gatherings because people are smoking, for then you are letting the psychological addiction win, don’t envy your friends who smoke. Live your life as you did, but now as a non-smoker. Don’t be afraid of quitting, because you know deep down that’s what you want. Dont let the brainwashing tell you otherwise.

I wish you the best of luck.

Waited till I got sick. I smoked two packs a day for years. Now I haven’t smoked since like Jan 2019 or so.

I had the flu, lit one up and vomited. I felt lousy any way, so I went cold turkey. That was 18 yrs ago.
If you get a craving, wait 5 minutes and it will pass. As time goes on the cravings will diminish. Your sense of taste will return, so be careful with overeating. But, when you smell a smokers breath, you will realize what a disgusting habit it is. Be strong!

Cold turkey was the way for me. Lots of little candies like Jolly Ranchers and Lemonheads were a big help, along with a big sack of weed. The rolling process alone seemed to help. You’ve gone 7 days, it only gets easier. You don’t want to say that you “tried to quit”. I’m 10 years plus off tobacco after 27 years on those nasty little things. Best of luck to you!

Cold turkey for me, but I am eating more
