The person interviewing you largely doesn’t know what they’re doing either and they’ve been given this very standardized interview template – they’re just reading it off and capturing the answers. That’s their answer. They put no more thought in it than that usually.
99% of the time none of that will matter and they’ll hire you based on feel / fit.
It’s just your standard power move.
They want to hear you talk about how you’ve always dreamed of delivering pizza for Hypothetical Pizza Company because Hypothetical Pizza Company is a shining example of the American Dream (due to its brilliant management, of course).
They’re sorting out the ones who are willing to do the ol’ song and dance from those who aren’t.
To all employers lemme answer for everyone. Because you give us money in exchange for services rendered. You take out the money part and we ain’t doing it
Hey man, I’m just trying to find a sliver of hope in life. Maybe you know why this job is worth it. Just tell me, okay?
I would honestly ask that question to get them comfortable talking with me. This should be one of those super basic questions that you have a good answer for going in. Unless someone had a really compelling answer, I wouldn’t even remember what they said.
