I get an hour lunch break and guess what I’m expected to do…work during it. It’s like an unspoken rule.
If I were still at my last job very half hour would be “slap my supervisor in her smug fucking face” time.
As a smoker and now a vaper – I work through lunch to make up for the 5 minute smoke breaks (the smoking area is literally 20 seconds walk from my desk). When all of my colleagues leave their desks at 1 o’clock for an hour to sit together in the canteen or go to local cafes for an hour, I stay at my desk and power through. I bring my lunch in with me so I eat my sandwich and banana at my desk holding the fort on the phones and carrying on with my work.
I think it’s fair enough in that sense and I also work a job where, if I step away from my desk, no one has to pick up the slack of me missing, it’s just my work for me so I’m not putting extra work on anybody.
I think if I worked a job as part of a team where one missing body has to be covered for by the rest of the team then you could certainly understand the other team members growing to resent the smoker – especially if they also took a full lunch!
Standard breaks are 10-15 min. every 2 hrs, with a 30-60 min. lunch within the first 5 hrs of your shift.
no no he’s got a point.
