Why is it so common to not be able to swim in many parts of Asia? Is there a real reason, or is it just not a common activity people do there?

Ed ecco le risposte:

It’s to do with unavailability of clean water streams, lakes. Also pools are rare not just at homes(super duper rare), but the common YMCA kind pools too

Well, it really depends on which part of Asia you’re referring to, and what kinds of water(body) to swim in. Is there any country/city that you might be thinking of in particular?

I live in Singapore, and there are lots of public pools to swim in, and many condominiums have their private pools as well. If you’re referring to rivers, then most of the rivers are connected to our reservoirs, which supply drinking water so swimming isn’t allowed by law, even though the water is pretty clean. It’s pretty safe to swim at the beach though.

In other parts of SouthEast Asia, it’s a fairly similar situation.

I’m guessing a large part of it has to do with the disgusting and hazardous amount of trash and or bacteria floating around depending what part of Asia you are talking about.

I mean I live in the middle of the USA and even the waters bacteria content can get so high it becomes hazardous to swim in and can cause people to become sick.

Just look up Meekong dead people river

Your question prompted me to ask whether this is even true. It seems that a lot of drownings occur in China each year and that relatively few people are confident swimmers – one curious thing is that as parents often cannot swim, it makes them not want their children to learn because they worry their children will take unnecessary risks.
